APPALACHIA INTERMEDIATE UNIT 8 LOCAL TASK FORCE IS A PLACE WHERE PARENTS' VOICES ARE HEARD

  • The Local Task Force shares vital information to assure each child's right to a free and appropriate education.
  • The Local Task Force monitors education programs for school age students with disabilities.
  • The Local Task Force can be a catalyst on a particular problem or concern.

The Local Task Force is an advocacy group mandated by the PARC vs. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, 343 F. Supp. 279 (1972) Consent Agreement.

Parents, representatives of agencies serving the disabled, advocates for the disabled, and educators are eligible to become members of the Task Force. There must be a majority of parents on the Task Force so more interested parents are always welcome and needed.

The Local Task Force in IU 8 serves the 35 school districts of Bedford, Blair, Cambria and Somerset Counties.

This Local Task Force meets at Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8. Monthly meetings are held at the IU8 Ed-Tech Center, 580 Foot of Ten Road, Duncansville PA. Meetings are held at 9:30 A.M. the first Wednesday of each month, excluding July and August. You are welcome to attend. Anyone wishing to present an agenda item is asked to contact the LTF chairperson at least five working days prior to the meeting.
