Mrs. Deborah Weiland » Introduction

Introduction

Welcome to the Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) website. I’m Mrs. Weiland and I live in the northern end of Cambria County on a few acres of ground in an 1850’s farmhouse. My FCS education degree is from IUP. I earned a Master’s of Education from St. Francis. I hold professional memberships in the American and Pennsylvania Chapters of FCS. Continuing education and personal growth is important to me so I regularly take classes and workshops that are fulfilling professionally and personally.

FCS courses are designed to help students make a successful transition to adults that are productive, independent and successful. Electives that I teach at the high school level include basic and advanced cooking classes, Child Development and Senior Survivor. Penn Highlands credit can be earned for Child Development. Senior Survivor is a graduation requirement that focuses on financial literacy and a variety of other topics that aid in making a smoother transition into independent living.

In my spare time I love spending time with family and friends keeping traditions alive and making new ones. I enjoy many hobbies including working on our house, collecting and restoring antiques, decorative painting, pysanky egg decorating, gardening, reading, badminton and hiking with my dog. In the winter I enjoy snowshoeing and cross country skiing.

I look forward to getting to know your student and doing my best to help them fulfill their potential.  Never hesitate to contact me, dweiland@richlandsd.com, if you have any questions or concerns about your child or the course work.
