My name is Mrs. Melissa Oliver and this is my twenty- fifth year teaching and my eighteenth year teaching at Richland Elementary! I am a graduate of IUP where I earned a B.S. in Elementary Education and an M.Ed. with a Reading Specialist Certification. In addition, I also completed the ESL Program Specialist Certification through the IU8 in 2011.

My teaching career began at West End Catholic School where I spent 3 years teaching Second Grade. As a graduate of the Conemaugh Township Area School District, I was excited to spend 4 years teaching there in Fourth Grade, Third Grade, and as a Reading Specialist before being hired at Richland as a Reading Specialist. In addition to working as a Title 1 Reading Teacher, I have also worked as a Third Grade Teacher and as an English Language Development Teacher for our students who are English Language Learners.

I live in Richland with my husband, Mike, my two children, Madelyn and Mason, and my dog, Chloe.  Madelyn is in her senior year at the University of Pittsburgh.  Mason is a senior at RHS.   We are all so excited about the 2023-2024 school year and graduating!

I'm excited to announce that our classroom will begin using a new app!  Recommended by Mr. Brandon Bailey, Director of Educational Services, the app, TalkingPoints, will allow us the ability to communicate in over 25 languages!

There is a free parents app for enhanced experience, or if you don't have it, you can still receive your messages as text messages.  The app is called,  TalkingPoints for Parents.  To join, enter class code ADR6EX.

I feel this is an excellent opportunity for us to work together to support students’ learning without the worry of the language barrier!

I have also prepared letters to send home with the students that have these directions in various languages.

I look forward to trying out this app and think this is an excellent way to share our diversity!

We are so excited to see our published books!  We celebrated with some shamrock smiley cookies because I feel very LUCKY to work with such amazing kids!  I am so proud of how hard they worked on this project!
So proud of all of my students who have been working so hard on their tests.  We will finish them NEXT week due to the SNOW DAYS this week.
