My name is Mrs. Melissa Oliver and this is my twenty- fifth year teaching and my eighteenth year teaching at Richland Elementary! I am a graduate of IUP where I earned a B.S. in Elementary Education and an M.Ed. with a Reading Specialist Certification. In addition, I also completed the ESL Program Specialist Certification through the IU8 in 2011.

My teaching career began at West End Catholic School where I spent 3 years teaching Second Grade. As a graduate of the Conemaugh Township Area School District, I was excited to spend 4 years teaching there in Fourth Grade, Third Grade, and as a Reading Specialist before being hired at Richland as a Reading Specialist. In addition to working as a Title 1 Reading Teacher, I have also worked as a Third Grade Teacher and as an English Language Development Teacher for our students who are English Language Learners.

I live in Richland with my husband, Mike, my two children, Madelyn and Mason, and my dog, Chloe.  Madelyn is in her senior year at the University of Pittsburgh.  Mason is a senior at RHS.   We are all so excited about the 2023-2024 school year and graduating!

Students in grades 1 through 5 have been working very hard this week to complete the annual WIDA ACCESS 2.0 testing!  Good luck!  Keep up the great work!

TESTING!
We will begin WIDA ACCESS 2.0 testing on Tuesday!  Please encourage your child to do his/her best!

ACCESS for ELLs is given to all ELs during the annual testing window, which typically lasts from January through mid-February.

State Testing Requirements

  • Pennsylvania students must take the ACCESS for ELLs Online. The paper-based version of ACCESS for ELLs for Grades 1-12 may be given only as an accommodation for students who require it. Kindergarten and Alternate ACCESS remain paper-based.
  • Students in Grades 1-5 handwrite their responses to the Writing domain in a response booklet.

Pennsylvania has been a member of the WIDA Consortium since 2007.

SIGN IN TO CLASSROOM

All of my students in grades 1-5 have a google classroom where they can access the various quizlets.  I have attached sign in directions if you need them.  If you don't know your child's username or password, just let me know and I'll be sure to send it home!
Being a good listener can be very difficult this time of year for many students, but not this GOLDEN TICKET WINNER!  Way to go!
