Dear Richland students and families,
In light of recent events across the country impacting schools, we want to reassure our students and families that the safety of our students and staff is the top priority for the Richland School District. Please know that we work constantly and with vigilance throughout the year to improve safety measures at our buildings, prepare staff and students for all types of emergencies, and maintain positive relationships with our police, fire, and EMS partners. For security reasons and the protection of our students and staff, we do not share specifics of our All Hazard Plans.
Our number one goal is to provide a learning environment where students feel safe and comfortable to speak up if something does not feel or seem right. Our counselors, staff, and administrators are ready to handle situations as they arise. We are also fortunate to have a caring school resource officer to look after our students every day and to enhance our security.
At home, we encourage you to be aware of your child’s or children’s activities, both in person and online, as a community working together is the best defense in keeping our schools safe. We also encourage you to sit down and have a genuine age appropriate conversation with your child or children about the enclosed outline of the “A.L.I.C.E.” procedure that is reviewed with our students on a quarterly basis and we ask that you stress the concept of “If you see something or hear something-Say something!” In the primary grades, we also will be utilizing the “I’m not scared, I’m prepared” series in the primary grades which can be found on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l12Hh6-bSqs
Thank you for all of the support you provide the Richland School District as we do all that we can to keep our students safe so they can learn in a safe, secure, and caring environment where “A student is never an interruption of our work, he or she is the purpose of our work!”
