High School Nurse
Hello! My name is Skylar Barbarich. This is my first year as the high school nurse at Richland. I am also a proud 2012 graduated from Richland High School. I attended undergrad at University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown where I obtained my Bachelor's of Nursing in Science degree. Then, I obtained my School Nurse certification through Slippery Rock University.
I am a dedicated nursing professional with a strong commitment to supporting the health and well-being of others across all stages of life. I have gained experience working at Conemaugh Memorial Medical center in a wide range of specialties including medical surgical and labor and delivery nursing. I gained valuable experience providing care to both medical patients of all ages as well as mothers and newborns during some of life’s most critical and meaningful moments. In these fast-paced and high-acuity environments, I developed strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm and effective under pressure. Supporting families during times of both joy and uncertainty strengthened my compassion and reinforced my commitment to patient-centered care.
Building on this foundation, I transitioned into my current role as a school nurse, where I continue to serve my community in a different but equally impactful way. In the school setting, I provide comprehensive care to students, addressing both immediate health concerns and long-term wellness needs. I work closely with students, families, and staff to promote a safe and healthy learning environment, manage chronic conditions, and support students’ physical and emotional well-being. My previous nursing experience has uniquely prepared me for school nursing by strengthening my assessment skills, adaptability, and ability to communicate effectively with individuals and families. I bring a compassionate, proactive, and detail-oriented approach to my work each day.
I am committed to fostering a supportive and responsive environment where students feel safe, cared for, and ready to learn. As I continue in my role, I remain dedicated to professional growth and to making a positive difference in the lives of those I serve.
