Welcome to 3rd Grade!

Hello!  My name is Sarah Dininny, and I am a 3rd grade teacher at Richland Elementary. I am so proud to be teaching at my alma mater! I graduated from Richland in 2008.  I went to Pitt-Johnstown and earned my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 2012.  I earned my Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Clarion University in 2017. This will be my 14th year of my teaching career.  I absolutely love my job and my students!

 

I am SO excited to get to know your child this school year!  We will have a lot of fun in 3rd grade. I know you will be amazed at the academic, social, and personal growth you will see in your child!  I believe that children learn best in a classroom community that is nurturing, warm, and inviting, and I always want my students to feel safe and happy in their educational environment.  I strive to make every child feel special and supported.  I know we will have a wonderful year! :)

ELA:
**In week 3 of Unit 1, there are no new Spelling words.  So, we will play review games to practice Week 1 & 2 words.  There will be no Spelling packet assigned this week. There are also no new vocabulary words this week.
 
Monday: Read for 15 minutes
Tuesday: Read "Gary the Dreamer" and get bookmark signed
Wednesday: "Gary the Dreamer" selection test tomorrow
Thursday: Cold Read test tomorrow (Cold reads are reading comprehension quizzes in which students answer questions about a text they are seeing for the first time.)
Friday: No homework!
 
Math:
We will have our Unit 1 Math test this week, so students will have less written homework than usual.  We will review for the test on Tuesday and Wednesday, and the test will be on Thursday.
 
Monday: SL 24

ELA:
This week, we will continue to practice commonly misspelled words and have a Spelling Practice test for bonus points on Friday.  We will also participate in fun centers while students are individually tested for their instructional/independent reading levels.  Please encourage your child to spend some time reading each evening at home.

Week of 8/25-8/29

ELA:
This week, we will begin our first read aloud - an "I Survived" novel.  We will also begin a narrative writing project to tell about our summer vacations.  We will also talk about commonly misspelled words, and we will take a practice Spelling Test for bonus points on Friday.
 
Math:
In Math, we will review concepts from second grade and begin our Everyday Math series lessons.
