My name is Mrs. Melissa Oliver and this is my twenty- fifth year teaching and my eighteenth year teaching at Richland Elementary! I am a graduate of IUP where I earned a B.S. in Elementary Education and an M.Ed. with a Reading Specialist Certification. In addition, I also completed the ESL Program Specialist Certification through the IU8 in 2011.

My teaching career began at West End Catholic School where I spent 3 years teaching Second Grade. As a graduate of the Conemaugh Township Area School District, I was excited to spend 4 years teaching there in Fourth Grade, Third Grade, and as a Reading Specialist before being hired at Richland as a Reading Specialist. In addition to working as a Title 1 Reading Teacher, I have also worked as a Third Grade Teacher and as an English Language Development Teacher for our students who are English Language Learners.

I live in Richland with my husband, Mike, my two children, Madelyn and Mason, and my dog, Chloe.  Madelyn is in her senior year at the University of Pittsburgh.  Mason is a senior at RHS.   We are all so excited about the 2023-2024 school year and graduating!

Nick was very excited and proud to earn a GOLDEN TICKET!  He demonstrated that he can answer a question with a complete sentence including words from the question in his answer without prompting!  Way to go Nick!
First Grade read a story from Frog and Toad Together this week, so we created a YouTube playlist of the first five stories in Frog and Toad Are Friends, the first book in the series by Arnold Lobel.  Then we took an Accelerated Reader test to demonstrate what great listening and reading skills we have!  Thank you Miss Latoche for your assistance with Accelerated Reader!
Kindergarten practices word families by matching the picture to the word.  This activity is great for practicing our reading skills and developing our vocabulary.
1st grade students were thrilled to get their very own Google Accounts in order to join my Google Classroom!  Now they can practice their Quizlets at home!  They were so excited!  Thank you Mr. Bailey and In-Shore for making this possible!
