About Mr. Sabol:
Mr. Sabol was born and raised in Johnstown. After graduating from Richland High School in 1987, he attended California University of Pennsylvania. While in college he was a 4 year Letterman and Defensive MVP on the University's Football Team, a member of the National Honor Fraternity - Phi Sigma Pi, and also a member of the social fraternity - Tau Kappa Epsilon. In 1991, he graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education (Earth Science). Upon completion of his undergraduate studies, he began his teaching career at Richland High School in the fall of 1991. He has also obtained his Master's Degree in Education through St. Francis University.
Mr. Sabol is entering into his 35th year of teaching. After teaching 9th grade Earth & Space Science and an 8th grade Earth Science exploratory class for the past 34 years, he is taking on a new challenge with teaching the 7th grade General Science class.. He strives to make his students aware of how Science is occurring all around them every day. During his time at Richland, he has supervised and coached numerous athletic teams including Junior High Football, Varsity Wrestling, Junior High Wrestling (current), Varsity Boys & Girls Track (current), Weight Room Supervisor (current), and Varsity Football (current). He has recently stepped into the role of being the advisor for the Richland High School Chapter of the Key Club, SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), the DFC (The Drug Free Coalition), the FMP (Future Medical Professionals) club, and has assisted numerous students with Homebound Instruction. He has also been active in the community, acting as an advisor/coach for the Richland Rockets youth football program, Richland Elementary Wrestling, East Hills Recreation basketball, the Westmont Recreation Summer Track Program, the "FORGE" Track & Field Throwing Academy, and for the Arbutus / VE Erickson baseball organization.

Mr. Sabol resides in the Richland School District with his wife, their 2 children, and their silver Labrador Retriever.
Interesting things that he enjoys doing and has done: Hunting, Hiking Local Trails and Short Sections of the Appalachian Trail, Snakehead Fishing, Handlining for Blue Crabs, Clamming, Deep Sea Fishing, Fishing for Halibut & Salmon in Alaska (2 trips), being about 30 feet away from a Alaskan Grizzly Bear, Fishing for Snook in Florida (and saw a wild Manatee while there), Steelhead Trout Fishing in the Lake Erie tributaries, Charter Boat Walleye Fishing on Lake Erie, Bungee Jumping, Whitewater Rafting on the Youghiogheny River, Whitewater Kayaking on the Stonycreek River, Kayaking the Blackwater Wildlife Refuge (Md), Sea Kayaking the Mangroves in Florida, Climbing Dunn's River Falls in Jamaica, Snorkeling in the Caribbean, Cliff Diving (45' high in the old Bedford Rock Quarry), Flying an Airplane (6 hrs. of flight time), Flying a Helicopter (30 min. of flight time), Flying in a Glider, Whale Watching Trips, Fossil Digs for Megalodon Teeth, Exploring an Underground Lava Tube, Swimming with the Sea Lions in the Pacific Ocean, Hiking the Coastal Trails of Torrey Pines State Park in California, Bicycle Tour of San Francisco, been on a boat in the Pamlico Sound (N.C.) with a Water Spout in the distance, Camping in a Tent at Assateague Island State Park and Letting the Ocean Waves Serve as the Alarm Clock, and Visiting: Meteor Crater, Carlsbad Caverns, Mount Saint Helens, Mount Rushmore, Devil's Tower in Wyoming, Yellowstone National Park, the Grand Teton Mountains, the White Mountains of New Hampshire, the Green Mountains of Vermont, the Skyline Drive in the Appalachian Mountains, the Giant Redwood Forest, Alcatraz, the Town of Roswell in New Mexico, Palm Springs in California, Niagara Falls (N.Y.), the Badlands in South Dakota, the Finger Lakes region of New York, many of the Smithsonian Museums in Washington DC, and driven through 38 of the 50 states so far.. He's also gone on a number of interesting Geology field study trips to New England, New York, Canada, and throughout Pennsylvania. His students also told him to include that he has eaten 50,000 year old ice from an Antarctic glacial ice core while taking a summer course at Penn State University and held a small iceberg in his hands while in Alaska (he also ate a chunk of that iceberg too... age unknown.)
