Weekly Update

Week of April 15th:
 
Language Arts - Our focus this week will again be preparing for the PSSA test.  We will be using our Coach workbooks to review skills we have covered, introduce new material, and practice test-taking strategies.  We will also be practicing how to respond to an open-ended question with RAPS writing.  There will be no spelling words or vocab words this week.  Students should continue reading their biography for their project.  We will be going over the General Information, This Person is Famous For..., and Portrait Sections of the biography poster this week.       
 
Math - We will continue Unit 7 on Fractions this week with Lessons 7-8 through 7-12.  A Homelink will be sent each night.  Students will take their final multiplication quiz, the 12s, on Tuesday.  Please continue to practice multiplication facts with your child as needed.

Week of April 1st:
 
Language Arts -  We will be practicing to write open-ended responses using the RAPS method, practicing for the PSSA test in our Coach workbook, and receiving the information for our biography project.  We will also begin our final chapter book of the year, Charlotte's Web.  There will not be new spelling or vocab words this week.  There will also not be any tests this week.   
 
Math - On Wednesday, students will be taking the final OnHand Schools assessment.  Students cannot prepare for this assessment.  We will continue Unit 7 on Fractions this week with Lesson 7-3.  A Homelink will be sent on Thursday.  Students will take their 9s quiz on Friday.  Please continue to practice multiplication facts with your child  as needed.

Week of March 25th:
 
Language Arts -
We will finish Unit 3 Lesson 1 on Earth this week.  Students will be reading the story to an adult at home on Monday, and taking a comprehension quiz on the story on Tuesday.  Students will also be taking their OnHands End-Year Assessment on Tuesday, which they can not prepare for.  Students will take the cold-read portion of their reading test on Thursday.  An overview of skills for this test was sent home on Monday, March 6th which included practice pages. We will also be introducing the biography project to students all week.  They will be creating a list of their top 5 people which is due on Thursday.  There are no spelling words or vocab words this week.   
 
Math - On Monday and Wednesday, students will be completing Easter activities which will review previously taught skills.  We will finish Lesson 7-2 on Tuesday.  On Thursday, students will be working on elapsed time.  There will be written math homework on Tuesday night only.  Students will also take their 8s quiz on Tuesday.  Please continue to practice multiplication facts with your child each night.

They will also take their 6s quiz on Tuesday and their 7s quiz on Friday.  Please continue to practice multiplication facts with your child each night.

Math - We will be finishing Unit 6 this week with a review on Monday and test on Tuesday.  There will be studying homework on Monday and a Parent Letter sent home on Tuesday.  We will begin Unit 7 on Fractions with Lesson 7-1 and 7-2 on Wednesday and Thursday.  There will be written homework sent both days.  They will also take their 4s quiz on Tuesday and their 5s quiz on Friday.  Please continue to practice multiplication facts with your child each night. The First In Math Shamrock Challenge (extra credit) is due on Friday.

Students will be taking their first multiplication quiz on the 0s and 1s facts on Friday.  Please continue to practice multiplication facts with your child each night.

Math -  We will be finishing Unit 5 on Fractions and Multiplication with Lessons 5-7 to 5-10.  The Unit 5 review will be on Thursday and the test will be on Friday.   A HomeLink will be sent on Tuesday and Wednesday only.  The students will be learning the "extras" facts on Tuesday.  These facts will complete their flash card set.   Please continue to practice multiplication facts with your child each night

There will not be math class on Wednesday due to the Valentine's Day party.  The students will be learning the 12s facts on Tuesday.  Please continue to practice multiplication facts with your child each night.

Math - On Monday, students will be completing their OnHands Mid-Year assessment, which they cannot prepare for.  On Tuesday, students will be reviewing solids and shapes.  Students will be reviewing for the Units 1-4 Cumulative Test on Wednesday and will take the test on Thursday as well complete the Solids/Shapes Performance Assessment.  The students will also be learning the 8s facts on Tuesday.   Please continue to practice multiplication facts with your child each night.

There will not be a spelling test, vocab quiz, or reading test this week.  For homework, students will be working on reading books and logging their Book-It minutes.  
 
Math - We will be continuing Unit 4 with Lessons 4-8 to 4-10.  A Homelink will be sent Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  The students will be learning the 6s facts on Tuesday.  Please continue to practice multiplication facts with your child each night.

We will also continue with Mid-Year testing.  Students will take the OnHands Winter assessment on Wednesday and Thursday.  There will not be a spelling test, vocab quiz, or reading test this week.  
 
Math - We will be continuing Unit 4 with Lessons 4-5 to 4-9.  The students will be learning the 4s facts on Tuesday.  A Homelink will be sent Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  The First in Math Snowflake Challenge (extra credit) is due on Friday.  Please continue to practice multiplication facts with your child each night.

Language Arts - This week, we will be conducting our mid-year testing to determine student reading levels.  Students will be assessed using an F&P test and a DAZE test.  Students will be reviewing past skills while completing activities throughout the week.   There will not be a spelling test, vocab quiz, or reading test this week.  December Book-It is due on Tuesday and students will be receiving their new January calendars at that time.  
 
Math - We will continue Unit 4 on Measurement and Geometry with Solids and Lessons 4-4 and 4-5 this week.  Students will have a worksheet or Homelink on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  Students will be learning the 3s facts on Tuesday.  Please continue to practice multiplication facts with your child each night.

Math - On Tuesday, we will be starting our multiplication fact cards and introducing the program to students.  There will be a parent letter sent home that evening which needs signed and returned.  The homework for Tuesday night is to practice the multiplication facts we learned in school, which are the 0s and 1s facts.  On Wednesday and Thursday, we will continue working on Unit 3 - Operations with Lesson 3-9 and 3-10.  There will be a homelink on Wednesday and Thursday nights.  On Thursday, students will be learning the 2s facts.

Math - We will continue working through Unit 3 on operations with lessons 3-7 DAY 2 and Lesson 3-8.  Students will have a homelink on Monday and Tuesday nights.

We will be wrapping up Unit 1 with a practice on cold-reads and how to answer Part A/Part B questions as well as choosing two answers for a question. 
 
Math - We will continue working through Unit 3 on operations with lessons 3-5, 3-6, and 3-7 DAY 1.  Students will have a Homelink on Tuesday-Thursday night.  Students will be completing their sixth and FINAL subtraction quiz on Thursday, so please continue to study subtraction facts with your child.

Math - We will be finishing up Unit 2 with lesson 2-12 and the Unit 2 test this week.  There will be a Home Link on Monday night only.  Students will be reviewing for their Unit 2 test on Tuesday night and taking it on Wednesday.  Students will also be completing their fourth subtraction quiz on WEDNESDAY due to the Halloween parade and party.  Please continue to review subtraction facts at home with your child.  The First in Math extra credit is due on Wednesday, October 25th.

Math - We will be continuing Unit 2 with Lessons 2-5 to 2-7.  A Homelink will be sent Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  On Thursday, students will be taking their second subtraction quiz.  A new practice page was sent home on Friday.  Please continue to review subtraction facts at home with your child.

Language Arts - We will finish Unit 1 Lesson 1 on Gary the Dreamer this week.  Students will be reading the story to an adult at home on Tuesday, and taking a comprehension quiz on the story on Wednesday.  Students will take the cold-read portion of their reading test on Friday.  An overview of skills for this test was sent home on Monday, September 18th which included practice pages. There will also be a grammar quiz this week.  See your child's agenda for the date, as it will be scheduled once we finish practicing the skill.  There are no spelling words or vocab words this week.   
 
Math - We will wrap-up Unit 1 with lesson 1-13 on Monday.  We will review Unit 1 with an in-class study guide on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Students will be taking their first math test on Thursday.  An important letter regarding upcoming subtraction quizzes will be sent home on Monday.  Students will have a Homelink on Monday only.  They will be reviewing their study guide on Wednesday evening for the Unit 1 test on Thursday..

Math - On Monday, students will be taking a beginning of the year screening which is not graded.  We will begin Unit 1 on Tuesday with Lessons 1-1 to 1-3 throughout the week.  Students will have a HomeLink to complete Tuesday and Wednesday.  Timed addition quizzes begin next week.  Please read the letter sent home in your child's homework folder on Monday.

Language Arts - We will continue Unit 3 Lesson 3 on Birth of an Anthem this week.  An overview of skills will be sent home on Monday which includes practice worksheets. Vocab quiz will be on Wednesday 5/17. There will also be a grammar quiz this week.  See your child's agenda for the date, as it will be scheduled once we finish practicing the skill.  We will also be finishing Charlotte's Web and administering our spring F&P testing.  Your child should continue to work on their biography project which is due on May 22nd.  We have discussed all parts of the project at this point and students have seen a demonstration of how to complete each section of the poster.  
      
Math - On Monday and Tuesday, students will learn how to multiply 2-digit and 3-digit numbers by one digit.  On Wednesday and Thursday, students will be playing in a PIG tournament to review their multiplication facts.  Written homework will be given on Monday and Tuesday.  Students will take their 12s quiz on Friday.  Please continue to practice multiplication facts with your child as needed.

Language Arts - On Monday and Tuesday, students will be given work time to make their posters colorful.  Wednesday - Friday, we will be continuing to read Charlotte's Web. as well as working on writing and some end-of-the-year projects.  We will also be going over the Mini Movie and Creative Quickies sections of the biography poster as well as learning how to write detailed captions.  Our spring F&P testing will continue this week as well.  Homework this week will be to work on their biography project which is due in 3 weeks.     
 
Math - There will be no Math classes Monday - Tuesday due to PSSA testing.  On Wednesday, we will review Unit 7 for a test on Thursday.  Students will also continue to practice responding to an open-ended question.  Students will take their 10s quiz on Friday.  Please continue to practice multiplication facts with your child as needed.  There will be no written homework this week.
