hello this is mrs. Nicole Krauss school counselor Tristan and I am here today to talk to you about dual enrollment and the opportunities that we have here wrestling I'm going to be using our Richland High School what is website to help us through this process and this discussion by purchasing credit your son or daughter could not only earn high school credits a diploma and transcript but also credits through Penn Highlands so if you go to Department then guidance and then over to the dual enrollment page this is the one that I want show you this first link here will take us to the Penn Highlands website for dual enrollment and their website is nicely set up in a frequently asked questions page you want to screw around here how do I apply and that link right there will take you to their website and that's how you register choose the classes and then pay later on if you're having trouble with that registration process you can either call them and those items are listed there I want you to know that are English and math courses require compass testing and that's a placement test that Penn Highlands gives to your student and you will need the are the centers in the numbers they are to schedule an appointment those COMPASS test must be done by September 24th because registration do the application and the 25th and you want to make sure that that's in before then the next thing listed here are all of the prerequisites and things to consider when choosing some of those classes and Highlands caps the of credits that one student can earn at 21 credits of Ace Credit so you need to carefully choose those classes from this list this list includes the Penn Highlands course number and name the number of credits for each course and the name of the wrestling course signal want to use that information to both register for the course to the Penn Highlands website and to also come up here and check out the equivalencies and eat at some of the local colleges so the first one that I have is the upj site this is going to help you choose the best combination of classes for your son or daughter and I understand this takes a lot of future planning you need to know not only where your son or daughter is interested attending but what also they'll be majoring in so you PJ I have links here and if you go to their website it'll give you a list of all the equivalency colleges that they'll accept credits from you slept on Highland and they actually have a whole worksheet laid out here for you for every class pain Highland and Highland offers and the equivalent upj course so fine example I'm looking up our June English which is English 110 and you find that number again on the Richland website under the English composition class I think that's why I found that number I got you take that over to the worksheet see the English 110 there and that is equivalent to this composition when class is listed right here you might ask how will I know if that's a good class to take I see that it transfers to upj but will it transfer for my son or daughter's major I have went ahead and Googled upj the name of a major and the word curriculum so in this case I chose their nursing curriculum and this is a really handy and useful worksheet that students can use and here's our nursing curriculum and you might notice that right ear is the composition class that we just left and so yes indeed your son or daughter would want to purchase a class if they're attending upj for nursing the next equivalency website that I have linked on the guidance on the door rollers age is the call the public universities and that includes schools like you PJ Limburg equivalency tool you're taking those credits from Penn Highlands and transferring them to one of the state's schools in this case I chose iup and there's the 110 course and it again transfers as an College writing class I went ahead and booked up nursing for IU and there again is a composition class is a required class for that major you can do this with any school in any major it just may take some digging so 3 popular types of schools I've listed here for you I couldn't let them all with you Google the name of the school the name of the major and the word curriculum you should find similar websites search site or worksheets that you can use to figure out whether or not that would be a good investment it just be careful as your son or daughter is going to a school and majoring in what's a biology that school will want you to take their biology course and I have linked over here on the door and Roman page to the right all of the frequently asked questions that I get about the one romance Sophie check that out as well horse Betting Forum with all that helpful information or an island key dates for the 1920 school year and again your son or daughter will need to apply to be a student there's no fear like that by September 25th and then they need to register for classes. They're already a student or if they registered then they can choose courses by September 27th and the compass test again you went to her not done prior to the 25th and you'll need to call their office to get that scheduled I hope that this has been helpful for you I know that is a difficult process but in the for the most part those credits can be very helpful and nice car savings for most students I'm here to help you any way I can please email me or give me a call and I will try to walk you through it. I just can't say for any person with 100% certainty whether or not a class is a good value I can give you my best advice but I'm always going to send you right back to those curriculum worksheets can I put one up where you can see what your child is going to need to take in the future and then you need to sort of work backwards I hope you have a wonderful day I hope you find the door enrollment website helpful thank you for your time and thank you for watching have a great day
